When I was abroad, I was bombarded by student specials.  At my favorite café I could get a massive chai latte, a sandwich, and chips for €3.75.  Bus tickets were cheaper; I even got at 20% discount at the sports apparel store (my Under Armor collection has never been better). Being a student helped me save so much money.

So when I came back home, I started looking around for similar deals.  Turns out, Waterville isn’t too crazy about helping us save money.  But there are a few deals around town that I thought people might like to know about.

Railroad Square Cinema hosts a Colby night at the movies once a month.  Show your ID and it only costs $1 to see the film.  This month they are showing Ocar-winning The King’s Speech at 7:15 pm. on Wednesday March 9.  

Also, on Monday evenings, tickets at Railroad are only $5.50 (compared to the usual student price of $6.50).

DK Nails (located on Main Street across from Mainleys) offers Colby student specials on Thursdays.  But you have to make sure to state that you are a student; they will not just assumingly give you the discount.  Learned that one the hard way.  Manicures are $8 and a mani/ pedi combination is $30.

Applebees has just started a new student special on Tuesdays.  Show your school ID to get15% off an entrée.  (You can’t combine that with the 2 for $20 deal… how unfortunate…)

And here’s one that I wish I discovered ages ago:  COLBY SIZED at Pad Thai Too.  If you order “Colby Sized” you get an extra portion of noodles for only $2 extra.  People claim that they literally double the serving of Pad Thai.  Delish.  Oh, and a word of warning: you have to order at least $15 worth of food before they will deliver, so that extra two bucks might save you a car ride some blustery night.

At Colby’s favorite coffee shop, Jorgensen’s, buy 6 cups coffee and get one free.  

Mainleys has a whole slew of specials:

Mon- Buy 1 appetizer, get another half off.

Tues - $6 burgers (beef or veggie)

Wed- 2 pizzas for the price of 1 (their BBQ chicken pizza is to die for)

And from 4-6 everyday -- House Brews are at a reduced price.

The Super China Buffet offers a lunch special for $4.99 on Monday and Thursday.  And they also have a student discount of $2 off.  (Although I doubt this applies to the lunch special.)

When I called the guy at Cancun, he kept repeating “Everything is special.”  Seriously.  He said it at least five times.
