My grandfather, Opa. He lived in Germany during World War II and has always taught me the importance of perseverance and civic engagement. He has been a driving force in my life and has always encouraged me to get involved and to pay attention to the world around me.
What do you want to do post-Colby?
In short, I have no idea. However, I do think I would like to be in Washington D.C. working in the political arena. I would love to be a staffer for one of the Senators or Representatives from Maine. I also would love to pursue law school...I guess we'll see what happens. In this job market, I would be happy with anything!

As I child, my family would go to Maine for a week to stay at the beach. Then, when we moved to Maine, I always loved spending time at the beach. I love the beaches in Maine...they are incredible!
What has been your favorite class at Colby?
I would say Premodern Middle East History with Professor Turner last semester. The Middle East is an extremely misunderstood region in the United States and it was fascinating to study it in such an in-depth way.
From my freshman year roommate, I learned that having a roommate is not as horrible as books about college make it sound.
Given all the money in the world (and no restrictions) how would you change Colby?
I would love to build and staff resource centers for different multicultural groups (gender, race, religion, etc.)...I would also love a new indoor track...we have a horrible indoor track.

Who has been most influential in your life?
Honestly, ask anyone who has been in my room and seen the posters that cover my wall. I am truly inspired by Charles Schutz, the creator of the Peanuts comic strip. I love his philosophy on love and happiness. To give you a sample, here are some of my favorites: Happiness is helping your friends; Happiness is having a sister; Love is trust; Love is happiness. They are all just so great!
What do you want to do post-Colby?
I would love to move to Washington DC and work for a senator, congressman, think tank, or non-profit. After few years of getting my feet wet, I want to get either a law degree or a PHD in Public Policy to eventually work my way up to becoming Chief of Staff for the President. Hey, a girl can dream J

Where is your favorite place in the world?
Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. My family has a beach house there and I just absolutely love it! I love lying on the beach all day, reading great books, playing beach volleyball, floating in the waves, running on the beach at sunset, doing puzzles, and eating hush puppies!
What has been your favorite class at Colby?
Political Theory with Professor Corrado. I loved reading and analyzing the actual texts written by the world’s greatest political minds and Corrado is one of my favorite professors at Colby. The modern Art History survey with David Simon and Véronique Plesch is a close second though.
From my freshman year roommate, I learned that a white noise machine really works, even in a small room where three people are sleeping.
Given all the money in the world (and no restrictions) how would you change Colby?
I would give all the money to Campus Life to completely upgrade all student services. Then we could have all-school tailgates before every home sports game; dances like the Fall Ball my freshman year with a live band, decorations, and catered food; a system of public transportation that made it very easy to get to and from Waterville; and a completely renovated Pugh Center with a women’s resource center, a sexuality resource center, a religious resource center, and an expansive network of student support.
Where is your favorite place to study on campus?
I know it stresses some people out, but I am a third floor Miller kind of girl. There is just an energy there that really motivates me to work.
Now, the most important question: are you a Foss, Bobs, or Dana diner?
Based almost entirely on the factor of convenience, I am a Dana diner. It is hard to motivate yourself to go outside in the cold when you live in a Dana five-man!

That’s a loaded question, but right now one of the most pressing issues at Colby is the need for a Gender and Sexual Diversity Resource Center. Frankly, I would open up several resource centers so students with almost any issue could seek the help and resources they need.

It used to be the microfilm in the basement, but since I went abroad they redid it!
