Day Tripping: Two Fat Cats, Portland

Your only association with Portland might be from the air and as you pull out of the airport parking lot, but if you ever want a little change of scenery and are willing to put in a little bit of time: Portland can be the perfect day trip. Portland has a crazy foodie scene, but one of my favorite places to go is to some of the local bakeries. Portland has some great bakeries, and one of the best is Two Fat Cats.

I discover Two Fat Cats one day after going to one of my other favorite Portland spots, Benkay. I fell in love with Two Fat Cats as soon as I entered. Two Fat Cats is delciously charming with bookshelves lined with bottles upon bottles of brightly coloured sprinkles and big silver bowls of frosting. The case in the front displays the items of the day: a selection of pies both savoury and sweet, cookies and cupcakes in flavors that change daily.

Some of my personal favorites have been the oatmeal cookies with dried apricots and cranberries as well as the red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing. And the price is great, cookies are about a $1 each and cupcakes are $2. So, if you ever have a free saturday pick up a treat couple and walk along the port.
