Played: First Post
My first post is going to be a bit hip hop heavy, but I haven't heard anything that has stuck out to me like these tracks. Here are a few that have been in heavy rotation for me for the past few weeks. All these artists have mixtapes online so if you like what you hear, you should check out more of their stuff for free.
Track 1. Domo Genesis: Benediction
This track is from the newest mixtape of Domo Genesis, one of the members of the hip hop collective Odd Future, which features other big names including Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean. After listening to some of the tracks on this mixtape, I wouldn't be surprised if Domo starts to get some of the same recognition as the other more prominent members of Odd Future soon. This track has many references to hip hop giants, which I'm sure he hopes to be considered along with some day, ranging from the Mobb Deep instrumental he's rapping over, his reinterpretation of lines by Big L, and shout outs to Nas. Overall, this understated instrumental allows Domo to show off his sharp flow and I expect big things from him in the future.
Track 2. ASAP Rocky: Trilla
This Track is from the up and coming Harlem Rapper ASAP Rocky. The chopped up beat and laid back flow on this track are reminiscent of the old school Houston hip hop scene that featured legendary groups like UGK. However, this guy is the opposite of old school, seeing as Drake has just announced that ASAP Rocky will be the opener for his upcoming tour along with Kendrick Lamar. If people haven't heard of Rocky yet, it won't be long before he blows up, especially with the co-sign from Drake.
Track 3. A.Dd+: Insomniac Dreaming
I actually heard this track for the first time when I was starting to plan this post. I had never heard of this duo before, but the track is produced by Black Milk, who has a huge list of production credits including Slum Village and one standout album from this summer: Random Axe, so I figured I would give them a chance. From this song, its evident that this duo is intent on putting Dallas on the map. They are currently working on their new EP and this track is just a preview of what's to come from this duo.
