I arrived in Brazil at the end of the first week in March. Since then, it feels like I have been making up for lost time, and it’s useful to begin with the beach.

The art of stitching

Caro layed out certain parameters for the making of the quilts: students could not use traditional patterns, fusible adhesives, rotary cutters, rulers, squares, equilateral triangles and could not plan more than five steps ahead. These strict requirements, designed to free the students’ creativity, resulted in the creation of completely unique quilts with personal value to the students in the class. “I didn’t want to just have them making a quilt, but becoming a quiltmaker,” Caro said.

B+ on the College's Green Report Card

The Sustainable Endowments Institute awarded the College a B+ when it issued its 2011 College Sustainability Report Card Thursday, October 27. The report issued grades for 322 colleges and universities in all 50 states. The survey, released at Greenreportcard.org, is the only independent assessment of sustainability on college campuses. 

Political analyst gives talk

On Thursday, October 28, just five days before national elections, the College community welcomed esteemed political analyst Bill Schneider in Ostrove Auditorium. Schneider lectured on covering the current political climate in the United States.
