At Colby College, the system of government is a demockracy. Without even realizing it, a majority of us have been subtly subdued and gradually molded into complacent and apathetic citizens who are disinterested in political affairs, both at our college and in the world around us. Those who aren’t disinterested are disillusioned.
Some may wonder why students would be motivated to hold a vigil to honor the civilians who died on this day and in the eight-year war that followed. For those who don’t remember, I write this column.
In the newspapers last week, the headlines all read: “Gloria Steinem Speaks at Colby College, Encourages Activism.” On February 28, a mixture of Colby students (mostly females) and some professors and journalists were seated politely in the pews of Lorimer Chapel.
I insisted on my right to enter my opinions into the marketplace of ideas, so long dominated by orthodoxy.

Did you see it? The corporate media controlled show called Plutocratic Political Puppetry (presidential politics) was on full display last week on CNN.
The planet we all live on that revolves around the sun and spins tilted on its axis, rotating through the universe and traveling through space, is currently giving birth to an awakened human race.
Have you never looked beyond the history textbooks they gave you in those mandatory prisons they call schools? Have you never questioned authority or the rules?
