After defeating Wesleyan University on Feb. 13 to clinch a spot in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) playoffs, the women's basketball team advanced to the postseason with an unwavering attitude.
The Colby women's basketball team certainly has become a major threat within the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) this season. Opening the year with a 12-1 record, the Lady Mules easily shot down their opponents and critics with the best start in the program's history.
On Thursday, December 3, the Colby women's basketball team secured its fourth straight win in a game against the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners, raising its record to 4-0 for the 2009-2010 season.
The men's soccer team earned a spot in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) playoffs on Friday, October 30th with a decisive win against the Bates College Bobcats. Coming off of a solid win against Waterville rival Thomas College, the Mules stepped up and earned their second league win in the best way possible in a victory against the Bates. The win against the Bobcats secured Colby's spot in the postseason for the first time since the creation of the tournament in 2000.
During Fall Break, the Colby men's soccer team earned its first league win of the season on Saturday, October 10, battling into overtime to defeat the Tufts University Jumbos.
Battling into double overtime, the Colby men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie against the Middlebury College Panthers on Saturday, October 3. Played during the Panthers' family homecoming weekend, the energy surrounding the match renewed the spirits of the Mules and lifted their confidence after a week of tough losses. The tie, placing Colby's record in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) at 0-4-1, marks a significant turning point in the season for the Mules; with the toughest stretch of their schedule behind them and a substantial tie under their belts, the men move toward their upcoming games with newfound conviction.
On Saturday, September 26, surrounded by the support of loyal friends, family and alumni, the Colby men's soccer team took the field for family homecoming weekend in search of a win against the nationally ranked Williams College Ephs. Although the Mules held the Ephs to two goals in the first half, a devastating blow of an additional four goals after halftime suppressed the hopes of a recovery by the Colby men. While this 6-0 loss pushed the Mules to a record of 0-3 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and a 1-3-1 record overall, the score did not accurately reflect the Mules' efforts.
Completely dominating their opponents in the penultimate week of the regular season, the Colby women's basketball team defeated Thomas College and Connecticut College on their way to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) playoffs.
