Crew at CBB
This past weekend, the Colby College men’s and women’s crew teams completed their fall season of competition by hosting the annual Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) race on Messalonskee Lake in Sidney, Maine. On Saturday, the Mules rowed to tight losses to Bates College crew in both the men’s fours and eights events, as well as another second place in the women’s fours. Bowdoin failed to attend the races for unknown reasons and, therefore, finished last in all events by default.
The tightest race of the day was the men’s eights, in which the first Colby boat finished just three seconds behind Bates’ first boat, at 9:00.9 and 8:57.7 respectively. Bates’ win in the men’s fours was only slightly larger, winning by just over four seconds, 10:06.9 to 10:11.0, in that contest. Unfortunately, the Mules did not fare any better and were also unable to notch a victory over the in-state rivals from Lewiston. The Bates women swept the eights event, with both of their boats finishing before either Colby vessel crossed the finish line. Bates won the fours event by nearly 30 seconds but did not sweep as the first Colby boat came in second.
The crew teams head into the offseason disappointed after an unfortunate result in the CBB race. They will undoubtedly train hard this offseason to prepare themselves for the bulk of their competition in the spring.
